Domestic Violence
Living in an abusive relationship can suck the life out of you. You may have been isolated from your family and friends, psychologically beaten down, financially controlled, and physically threatened. You may feel confused and frightened. You may blame yourself for the abuse or feel embarrassed to discuss it. Leaving an abusive relationship is much harder than most people realize.
Working together, you can gain insight into the causes of domestic violence, gain confidence, and develop a plan to ensure the safety of you and your family. I will help you understand choices available, and support you whether you decide to leave your relationship or stay in it.
I also provide therapy for children and adolescents who have witnessed domestic violence or have been abused or neglected. My approach in these cases involves focused effort to develop and maintain a safe and secure relationship to model appropriate behavior. This can be especially meaningful to children and adolescents who experienced a male perpetrator.
I have supported the following charitable organizations through volunteering:
- Haven - formerly the Network Against Domestic and Sexual Abuse
- Montana State University Voice Center
I possess extensive education and experience in domestic violence. I have spent countless hours doing research about domestic violence, I have written an article about domestic violence for a professional journal, and I have given countless presentations about relationship violence.
