Panic Attacks
Medication can be used in the most severe cases of panic attacks, but patients should consider medication carefully due to the addictive nature of some of the most commonly prescribed anti-anxiety medications. Medication, alone does not represent an appropriate treatment for panic attacks. Cognitive/Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is generally viewed as the best treatment for panic attacks. This treatment includes:
- education about panic attacks
- monitoring panic attacks, triggers, causes, and your response
- learning physical techniques to alleviate panic attack symptoms
- learning cognitive techniques to alleviate panic attack symptoms
