Dysthymic Disorder
A chronically depressed mood that occurs most of the day, more days than not for at least two years characterizes Dysthymic Disorder. In addition, two or more of the following are present:
- poor appetite of overeating
- insomnia or hypersomnia
- low energy
- low self esteem
- poor concentration of difficulty making decisions
- feelings of hopelessness
The symptoms of Dysthymic Disorder tend to be more chronic and less intense than those of Major Depressive Disorder. Dysthymic Disorder can cause significant impairment to functioning in a variety of life activities.
