About Gary
I find nothing more professionally rewarding than helping create a safe and caring environment that empowers people to make positive changes to their lives. Being part of that journey seems like a privilege, not a job.
I passionately enjoy helping others, especially individuals struggling with mental illnesses, emotional eating, relationships, domestic violence, sexual assault, sexuality, anger, and trauma. I take a holistic approach to emotional health, recognizing the importance of diet, exercise, sleep and stress management. Many individuals see a significant reduction in anxiety, depression, and behavioral issues after making lifestyle changes that support overall health. I employ my sense of humor and cognitive behavioral therapy for most of my work.
I have participated in athletics in some form for the most part of my life. I currently enjoy mountain biking, trail running, cross country skiing and manual labor. In 2010, I received training and certification as a Personal Trainer. I do not provide personal training services, but I utilize this knowledge when counseling clients and in my personal diet and exercise program.
I have supported the following charitable organizations through volunteering:
- EverestER
- Thrive
- Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Colorado
- Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Gallatin County
- Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter
- Haven
- Montana State University Voice Center
- Gallatin Community Clinic
Recently, I have completed the following continuing professional education:
- Treating Abused and Neglected Children - 8 hours
- Breaking Free From Emotional Eating: Bulimia, Obesity, and Anorexia Nervosa - 6.25 hours
- Weight Loss and Physical Fitness for Emotional Health - 6 hours
